The Volcano Etna dry gin
This is a gin that has “infused all the typical scents and flavors of the Etna area: juniper, broom and bitter orange characterize it, giving it freshness, accentuated by the balsamicity of fennel.
Hazelnut is also added in the infusion to give a fat and round tone to the drink.” Volcano Gin has the peculiarity of sweet/bitter contrast that comes from Etna’s broom. There is a scientific explanation: “The botanicals, having grown on the slopes of the volcano, come with a very interesting and unique mineral note.
Ihe distillate is meant to be drunk neat and not just mixed, like a digestif.” With this in mind, the deep connection with the territory is also evident in the area of packaging, which is particularly evident in the caps that are handcrafted and are made from Etna sand. The spirit of the initiative is to bottle intoxicating smells, scents and aromas of the volcano’s spring sunsets. “Juniper, Gin’s botanical of choice, finds its ideal habitat on Etna; as does broom, absolute princess with its dazzling color and fragrance.” Etna’s gins are also characterized by careful study on the botanical level; it is clear that there is a deep relationship with nature filtered through centuries of study and scientific and craft knowledge.
The genesis of Volcano Etna dry gin dates back to 2018 and is linked to the idea implemented by three young Sicilians, Alessandro Malfitana, Diego Pollicina and Stefano Lo Giudice. The project was conceived years before, and the result was the fruit of study and passion.
