Volcano is the official gin of “Casa Sanremo – Banca Ifis” 2023, Etna’s first gin with a tribute to Battiato with the specially created cocktail named “Being Special.”
After our inception, there was no shortage of challenges to face, just think of the pandemic, but we were never discouraged. In 2022 we gave a lot, striving to be present in focused and dynamic events.
Our Volcano Gin toured Italy from North to South all the way to the craft fair in Milan, which ended not long ago. When we were approached to propose to become Official Supplier of “Casa Sanremo – Banca Ifis” a huge feeling of pride overwhelmed us. It is a source of great satisfaction for us to be accosted by the most important event on Italian music. We live in a unique place in the world, we are always connected to the sound of our Mama Etna.
Its noises, its hissing, its constant vibrations are very high frequencies that create energy.
We think we bring its soul into our gin, even through that yellow flower that characterizes its landscape and is featured in our recipe: the broom, which grows among the black slopes and stones of the volcano. We harvest it by hand alongside juniper berries and wild fennel.
Homage to Battiato
And so Volcano the official gin of “Casa Sanremo Banca Ifis” enters the Food Arena, Garden and Lounge areas. And it becomes the protagonist in the American Bar, where a drink list created by Sicilian mixologist Andrea Franzò will be offered with the two types produced, Volcano Dry and Volcano Rosè. A special tribute goes to the Sanremo Festival with a signature cocktail designed especially for it. A tribute to the great Etnean maestro Franco Battiato, it will be called “Being Special,” made with gin, flower syrup, raspberry and citron.
“In the recipe, in addition to the presence of our Volcano Gin and Sicilian lemons, there is a flower-based syrup,” Malfitana explains, “a tribute to one of the most important symbols of the city of Sanremo. The name of the cocktail, on the other hand, is dedicated to an excerpt from the lyrics of Battiato’s famous song, “The Cure.” Why “Being Special?” “To be special” like our Volcano Gin, conceived to enhance the priceless qualities of our Etna; “To be special” like the festival that every year gives us melodies that become eternal; like the city of Sanremo, which is its natural and irreplaceable stage; and like Maestro Franco Battiato himself, who in this case represents our personal musical bridge that catapults us from the volcano to Liguria and who in his life was an absolute giant.” The limited-edition bottles will be personalized and hand-painted by Sicilian artist Silarosè, to be gifted to the protagonists of the kermis.
